Study Italian in Florence in a movie set
If I tell you that you will study Italian in Florence in a movie set you won’t believe me… but is true, Florence suddenly may become a movie set!
It could happen that one morning coming to school, suddenly a policeman stops you and tells you: “Stop! You can’t pass right now, you must wait a few minutes, they’re shooting the scene of a film”. Looking around, in fact, you will see a nineteenth century style carriage with a beautiful white horse driven by a man all dressed up, shall we say, a little too vintage …. Now you understand why. But… what movie are they shooting? Who are the main actors? Are they famous? Wouls I be able to get an autografo or I maybe I can take a selfie with them!
Via Tornabuoni, where the headquarter of Italian me is located, and the Ponte Santa Trinita will be during these days the set of some scenes of the movie “My Cousin Rachel” by Roger Michell (Director of the famous Notting Hill), others scenes will be shoot in the historic center of Florence and Arezzo.
But it is not the first time that famous directors choose Tuscany for their works. Walking around Florence, and in particular in its historical center, you can find literally find yourself inside a movie.
Many examples, I will quote just a few:
“Inferno” by Ron Howard, the last in order of time, based on the book by Dan Brown. Last summer, the American crew has “invaded” the historical center of Florence and many people were for hours under the sun in order to see their idol Tom Hanks.
“The young Fabulous” (2014) by Mario Martone, which chronicles the life of Giacomo Leopardi, the famous nineteenth century Italian poet, who spent most of his life in the Florentine salons.
“Tea with Mussolini” (1999) by Franco Zeffirelli, who shows us the cultural side of Florence.
“Room with a View” (1986) by James Ivory, where the city plays a vital role with its breathtaking views. A famous phrase of the film says “it is sad that you have to have a room without a view in Florence.”
So follow this advice and choose an Italian me course, your “course with a view”. And what a view !!
